CrowdControl

Rhino plugin · v1.0.0 · updated

New

Fill a region, a surface or a whole object with copies of an object from your own library. Pick what to fill — a closed planar curve, a curve drawn on a surface, or a whole SubD, polysurface or mesh. Choose a pattern: a hex, grid or brick lattice, or an even scatter. Then choose how it meets the shape — laid flat and projected on, wrapped over the curvature with spacing measured across the surface, or following the object's own texture mapping, whether an unwrap or a planar or box mapping. Everything re-arranges the crowd in place, from panel fields or from draggable handles in the viewport: spacing, stagger, scale, depth, rotation, and how strictly the lattice is obeyed. Members can be kept clear of the edge, sized to the room they have, and grown or shrunk by their distance from points and curves you nominate as attractors. Deform to surface replaces the copies with geometry wrapped onto the shape, the way FlowAlongSrf and Squish do. Copies are block instances, so dense fills stay fast and files stay small, and each crowd is stored in the document — so it stays selectable and re-tunable after a save and reopen. The library keeps every item as a .3dm, so all Rhino object types work. A starter set ships with the plug-in, you can save the current selection as a new item, and the folder is configurable. Requires Rhino 9. Email questions to Brian.James@McNeel.com or post to the Rhino forum at discourse.mcneel.com and @BrianJ Command name: CrowdControl (toggles the panel). How to install CrowdControl

  1. On the computer running Rhino, run _PackageManager and search for CrowdControl.
  2. Or install it from a terminal (assumes a default Rhino 9 WIP installation):
    Windows (PowerShell)
    & "C:\Program Files\Rhino 9 WIP\System\Yak.exe" install CrowdControl
    macOS (Terminal)
    "/Applications/Rhino 9 WIP.app/Contents/Resources/bin/yak" install CrowdControl
  3. Or download a .yak file and drag it onto an open Rhino window.

Restart Rhino once the install finishes.
