Protection and access control for Grasshopper definitions. Rhino 7 and Rhino 8, Windows. Freeze any object in a definition and it keeps solving and feeding everything downstream, but can no longer be moved, deleted, copied or edited. Protection is saved into the .gh file, so a definition stays locked when you send it to a client, a consultant or a fabricator. Works on the standard Grasshopper components you already use - nothing needs replacing. Protection adapters are generated at runtime, so third-party components are covered too. GHShield is not encryption. Anyone with GHShield installed can unfreeze, and the logic remains readable as ordinary components. It prevents accidents and casual meddling, not a determined person.

How to install ghshield

  1. Click Install in Rhino to open Rhino's Package Manager with ghshield selected, or run _PackageManager inside Rhino and search for ghshield.
  2. Or install it from a terminal (assumes a default Rhino 7 installation):
    Windows (PowerShell)
    & "C:\Program Files\Rhino 7\System\Yak.exe" install ghshield
    macOS (Terminal)
    "/Applications/Rhino 7.app/Contents/Resources/bin/yak" install ghshield
  3. Or download the .yak file above and drag it onto an open Rhino window.

Restart Rhino once the install finishes.
