ShapeMap is a plugin for Grasshopper, developed by the McNeel Asia China team. It integrates multiple basic functions in Rhino and has undergone secondary development. This plugin allows users to map any curve texture designed on a plane onto the surfaces of complex 3D models, while minimizing or eliminating deformation of the texture curves on the 3D surfaces. With ShapeMap, designing textures on 3D model surfaces becomes much easier, and the operation process is intuitive and simple. Special emphasis, ShapeMap supports mapping texture curves onto polysurfaces (Brep) without being affected or constrained by the surface's UV direction. It enables the placement of complete, unified, and uniform texture curves across multiple connected surfaces. This resolves the long-standing limitation of traditional methods, which could not effectively apply textures across multiple surfaces. ShapeMap is currently widely used in industries such as automotive design, product design, footwear design, and architectural design. How to install ShapeMap
- Click Install in Rhino to open Rhino's Package Manager with ShapeMap selected, or run
_PackageManagerinside Rhino and search for ShapeMap. - Or install it from a terminal (assumes a default Rhino 8 installation):Windows (PowerShell)
& "C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\System\Yak.exe" install ShapeMap - Or download the .yak file above and drag it onto an open Rhino window.
Restart Rhino once the install finishes.
